I'm that Witch!

For this blog post I decided to make a quiz for you guys to figure out which iconic witch you are most like! I particularly enjoyed this section about the magic of plants and their healing powers. In my last blog post, I mentioned my personal interactions with our local witch. In addition to her crystals and their healing powers, she also believes strongly in the healing powers of plants. She sent us home with a few bundles of sage and instructions on how to perform a cleansing ritual on our house.  To successfully cleanse the energy in our home, Elsa told us that we needed to open every door and window in our house to give the energy a place to escape. She told us to light the sage and to set the intention of removing all negative energy from our space. Next, we were to walk through every door in our house and run the burning sage through each doorframe in the house in a clockwise motion. Once we hit each doorframe, we were to smudge out the sage and fan the smoke out through the open doors and windows. Once we had closed the house back up, the energy left inside was supposed to be clear...

     As we talked about astrology and crystals in class, it had me thinking about some personal experiences with the witches in my community at home. The town that I live in is small, eclectic, and home to a very vibrant arts community. Naturally, there is a popular crystal shop called Earth Stones International owned by a woman named Elsa on the main street next to the shop where I work every summer. The walls in her shop are lined with crystals big and small from the floor to the ceiling. Some of them are labeled with their names and the energies that they enhance, block, or carry, while others remain unmarked and mysterious. For those unmarked crystals, you have to rely on Elsa to teach you their powers.       Over the years, my mom and I have become friends with Elsa. Throughout our course readings I was very interested to learn more about Tarot cards and their origins and purposes. I have had increasing familiarity with tarot cards and readings over the course of quarantine and the pandemic, as these readings and videos pertaining to tarot card divination grew in popularity on tik-tok over the course of this period. Creators perform readings for their viewers, shuffling the cards and pulling them out- each one revealing a different aspect or prediction for the viewer’s life. This was always interesting to me because these videos reach such a wide audience, with some posts garnering more than 1 million views. Yet, thousands of people in the comments resonate with the message and predictions for their future.  One post by the user kyra.moon ( Link ) claims to predict the future of her viewers with her tarot card deck.
