Oovomancy - Divination Success!

One of my favorite classes of the semester was when our friends presented on WitchTok and Oovomancy. I loved how they gave us the opportunity to participate in this fortune telling tool by bringing eggs to class. I was laughing because in my group of boys no one knew how to crack an egg. So, I was the one who cracked an egg, so the fortune was about me! Once it cracked, we looked at the whites and the yolks in the water. We let it settle for a minute before looking for the different signs according to the key that the presenters provided for us.

The yolk was covered in a layer of whites. My group and I interpreted this to mean that I was surrounded by a good group of people and a strong support system. I think that this is true to my real life so it was very interesting to make this observation. Another thing that we noticed on my egg was three short strings of egg whites and one long string of white pointing up from the center. According to the map, this was supposed to mean that I had three opportunities and would be expecting one more big opportunity. Because the three were shorter and the fourth was longer, our group interpreted it to mean that the fourth option would be the one that would work out the best. Applying this to my own life, I took this to mean that the last graduate program that I was waiting to hear back from would be the one that I would decide to attend. I had been anxiously waiting to hear from my last school and was starting to think it was a lost cause. It applied perfectly because I had three other options (the three short ones) and one final option (the long one) that I was waiting to hear from.

After class I called my friend to tell her about how the Oovomancy predicted that I was going to get in to my last school! We decided to keep our fingers crossed but I hoped that the prediction would come true. A few nights later the divination came true! I got in to my fourth school and I have decided to go there! I think it is so fun that this was all predicted in the eggs. It might have been wishful thinking, but I like to believe that it was magic!

Personal Experience with Crystals, Astrology, and Elsa the Neighborhood Witch

As we talked about astrology and crystals in class, it had me thinking about some personal experiences with the witches in my community at home. The town that I live in is small, eclectic, and home to a very vibrant arts community. Naturally, there is a popular crystal shop called Earth Stones International owned by a woman named Elsa on the main street next to the shop where I work every summer. The walls in her shop are lined with crystals big and small from the floor to the ceiling. Some of them are labeled with their names and the energies that they enhance, block, or carry, while others remain unmarked and mysterious. For those unmarked crystals, you have to rely on Elsa to teach you their powers.       Over the years, my mom and I have become friends with Elsa. When I first met her, she asked me for my birthday and after crunching some numbers in her head told me that my “number” was six. She told me that this meant that I was very critical ...

Final Roses and Thorns Reflection

One of my favorite traditions among my friends is to talk about the roses and the thorns of our days. When we do this, we go around the room and discuss our highs (roses) and our lows (thorns). It is one of my favorite ways to reflect on the day, practice gratitude for the good things and to learn from the more difficult parts. As the semester winds down, I thought it would be nice to reflect on my roses and thorns of my semester in Witches class!  Roses One of my favorite aspects of this course was getting to learn about witchcraft as a reflection of culture. One of the ways that this was relevant was through the popular media presentations. As I observed in one of my other blog posts, it was interesting to watch the ways that popular representations of witches have changed over time and how those changes may reflect the type of society that exists in that specific time period. Times seem to always be tough, and at any moment in history there may be a million different things happ...
